Croatia Vs Czech Republic
With tensions high to advance to the next round of the Euro both teams fought hard and the outcome was not what fans had thought. The game had gone in favor for Croatia with both Croatian players Ivan Perisic and Ivan Rakitic both scoring goals early in the game. Both goals were fair, no rough plays or off side possibilities were seen. The game was looking to be a sweep by Croatia. However, with a goal in the second half by Milan Shoda it held the hopes high for the Czech fans. With the next activities happening in the game, Czech was given an opportunity that they took advantage of. Croatian player Domagoj Vida commited a hand ball penalty in the box near the goal which resulted in a penalty kick and added time for the Czech team. Before these events, Croatian fans had thrown flares onto the soccer pitch, supposedly to rig the game and waste time. With more than 6 flares thrown and fights breaking out in the stands of the fans, the Czech team was able to use this momentum and their penalty kick to tie the game 2-2.
The result in the first half, seemed to favor the Croatians, but with foul play by the Croatian fans and a definite penalty by Vida, the Czech side was able to tie the game.
I am always a fan of fair play in sports and very vocal about bad calls by both referees and fans. This game truly was a show for just desserts for the Croatian team and fans. We shall see what will come with the consequences of the fans actions later in this tournament.
Word hard, play hard, be fair.
Yours Truly,
